How Zazu Works Operationally

How we runs payments, regulation, and safeguarding of customer funds.

Payments Infrastructure

Zazu is connected to South Africa's local payment systems:

  • EFT (standard interbank transfers)

  • RTC - Real-Time Clearing (near-instant transfers)

  • Card payments

These flows are processed through SAVA, our payment processor, running on the banking rails of Access Bank South Africa.

Regulatory Setup

Zazu operates as a distribution partner of Access Bank South Africa, an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP 5865) regulated by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). Accounts and cards are issued through Sava Technologies (Pty) Ltd (FSP 53169), an authorised distribution partner of Access Bank South Africa. Payment system participation falls under the governance of the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA) and the oversight of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

Safeguarding of Customer Funds

All customer funds are safeguarded and held in segregated accounts at Access Bank South Africa. Your money is therefore held under the same prudential safeguards required for regulated banking institutions in South Africa.

What This Means for You

When using Zazu, you benefit from:

  • a bank-grade regulatory framework backed by the SARB and FSCA

  • strong security and safeguarding of funds

  • the agility and product experience of a tech company
